Student Activities & Clubs

Led by Mrs. Reymann, Crochet club meets after school one day per week.  Students are welcome to join us no matter their skill level, from never picked up a hook to experts.  Our generous Harman PTO  helped us stock up on hooks and yarn, so you can use our supplies or bring your own.  

For 5th - 6th graders

This club is designed for students who read and enjoy the Dog Man series by Dav Pilkey. Outside club meetings, students may participate in the reading challenge and earn badges and prizes for reading the books. At club meetings, students participate in a variety of games or activities based on characters and events portrayed in the books.

For 1st - 4th graders

Being a kid with a caregiver in the military comes with its own challenges and benefits. In Military Kids Club, we aim to build community by talking about and sharing these things with each other and the greater student body. Additionally, MKC hosts several events throughout the year, including a Veterans Day breakfast and ceremony, a field trip to the Air Force Museum, and a special field day with Smith's MKC at the end of the year. Harman is the recipient of the Ohio Department of Education's Purple Star designation, which recognizes schools that show a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military. 

For 1st - 6th graders with caregivers in the military

At each meeting of Puzzle Club, students are given a large selection of brainteasers, strategy games (like chess!), jigsaws, Hanayama puzzles, card and word games, and Rubik's cubes of various sizes and shapes to solve. Students help each other by sharing strategies, tips, and tricks, and have the opportunity to show off their mental prowess and impress their peers. 

For 3rd - 6th graders

The mission of this club is simple -- learn American Sign Language! First semester, students learn how to sign and sing a song to perform at our holiday assembly in December. Second semester, students learn the ASL alphabet, and other basic signs, like colors, feelings, and simple conversation.

For 2nd - 6th graders

At Sports League, students are introduced to a variety of sports, learn teamwork, training, and skill building techniques, and spend time together exercising and engaging in organized physical activities led by OHS student mentors.

For 3rd - 6th graders

This club is designed for students who read and enjoy the Baby-sitters Little Sister graphic novels and/or chapter books. Outside club meetings, students may participate in the reading challenge and earn badges and prizes for reading the books. At club meetings, students participate in a variety of games or activities based on characters and events portrayed in the books.

For 1st - 3rd graders

The club is designed for students who read The Baby-sitters Club graphic novels and/or chapter books. Outside club meetings, students may participate in the reading challenge and earn badges and prizes for reading the books. At club meetings, students participate in a variety of games or activities based on characters and events portrayed in the books. Ideas for these activities are student-generated and have included things like planning and executing an after school carnival to raise money for charity or an "adopt a grandparent" program with a local assisted living community.

For 3rd - 6th graders

During meetings of Harman's performing arts club, students play a variety of games designed to build theatrical and performance skills including creative thinking, spatial awareness, teamwork, communication, initiative, adaptability, and confidence. 

For 3rd - 6th graders

Harman's online school newspaper, The Good News, meets several times a month for students to learn basic tenets of journalism and write their own stories to be published in each monthly edition. Students are given press passes which give them special access throughout the building to conduct interviews, collect data, and do research. Students are also given time to write their pieces. Good News staff members must meet deadlines, be creative, responsible, and always remember our main goal -- to share good news that makes our readers smile!

For 4th - 6th graders

This club is for students who have an interest in gardening, taking care of the environment, and appreciating nature. From natural scavenger hunts to garden design, from weeding to composting and planting, this club bases its activities on basic tenets of ecotherapy, understanding that spending time outside improves mental health and emotional health.

For 1st - 6th graders

The Storytellers could also be called Creative Writing Club. At each meeting, students are given a writing prompt and spend their time writing a story based on that prompt. The student editors of The Good News then read each story anonymously and select one to be published in that month's edition of The Good News.

For 3rd - 6th graders

Watercolor Club is open to students in grades 2-6 during the lunch hour 1-2 times monthly. Students eat lunch from 11:40-12:00 and then head to Mrs. Walther's room, where they are led through a project at each session and leave with a finished painting. Families can check the Harman calendar, and students can listen to morning announcements for monthly club meeting dates. Past projects have included abstract flowers, fall trees, silly spiders, splatter monsters and turkeys. Join us for fun and creativity!

For 2nd - 6th graders

You never know what will happen at Wild Card Club! Maybe you'll have a snowball fight or play ultimate trivia. Maybe you'll solve an escape room or build a fort and read in a self-created cozy nook. Maybe a karaoke dance party awaits, or you'll have the chance to set a record in gymnastic tricks or three-point shots. You have to sign up and show up to find out!
