Almost half of Oakwood students are identified as gifted, according to the State of Ohio’s definition, in at least one of the domains of giftedness: Superior Cognitive, Specific Academic (math, science, language arts, social studies), Creative Thinking and Visual & Performing Arts.

Most gifted students in Oakwood are served through differentiation provided within the general education program. The Oakwood Gifted Program assesses students for giftedness, provides professional development for educators and resources for parents, and provides additional services for those gifted students who require more extensive enrichment/extension.

Oakwood has three full time nurses serving the school district. We provide first aid, care for chronic health conditions, provide health education, and maintain health records and immunization records.

Our goal is to give students and families a safe and healthy school environment and surrounding community physically and emotionally.

Our operations department works with the Oakwood Schools administration and facilitates the workings of each building, through our current Master Facilities Plan, as well as regular upkeep of our historic buildings.

Oakwood Schools recognizes the importance of providing a specialized education for students with disabilities. Students within our district are provided educational services based upon the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA), the federal law governing special education. IDEIA requires public schools identify students with disabilities through a multi-factored evaluation (MFE) and then provide the students with a free and appropriate public education (FAPE).

The Oakwood Technology Department is devoted to providing support to students, parents, teachers, and staff. This support covers a myriad of aspects including:

• Expertise in the instructional design and educational integration of technology
• Forward-thinking planning and setting of district vision relating to the use of technology
